PLEASE be really mindful when you see sleep consultants advertise that they’ll show you how to get your baby to sleep with absolutely no crying at all.

‘No crying’ simply does not happen when you change sleep habits and when you start a sleep plan with an exhausted and overtired baby.

I absolutely WILL NOT advocate for allowing your baby or child to work themselves into a state of distress and cry themselves to sleep. That is not the idea at all. But I will be honest and say that your baby might whinge, fuss and cry on and off whilst you’re implementing your new sleep plan and establishing your new and wonderful sleep routine for them.

I say “respond to your baby or child at times you feel you need to”. I also say “it is OK to step back, take a break and give your baby or child the time and space they need as they go through the process of drifting off to sleep on their own”.

In my Foundations First™ Video Course I talk about crying during the falling to sleep process in great detail.

I also give examples of what ‘high level crying’ and ‘low level crying / fussing’ sounds like.

If you’re dealing with sleep challenges, the absolute first thing you need to do is be aware of your mindset and be willing to shift it to one that empowers you. Any preconceived ideas you have about baby and child sleep, anything that people have told you or that you’ve read – please, put it all aside and know that there’s always a reason why your little one isn’t getting the sleep they need.

When you do this, you’ll be able to see two things much more clearly:

Number one – sleep challenges can be solved. You don’t need to just suck it up and live with them,
and number two – the person with the power to get your baby or child sleeping well is you.

Put simply, teething might affect your baby or toddler for a night or two but it should NOT change their sleep pattern!

Most parents will often blame teething for so much (easy to do when you see those swollen gums, red cheeks and constant drooling).

Throughout the teething stages where teeth are cutting through the gums, you baby may require some pain relief and extra cuddles but what we’ve found in our experience, is that well rested babies and children cope a LOT better than babies and children who are overtired and exhausted.
